i don't know about you....but, at this current phase of one's life, it takes at least an hour to get out the door and ready to face the day.  back when young & in school, sleep time was to be maximized because you stayed up late the night before. you set your alarm and had a full 8 1/2 minutes before the bus arrived and by two weeks after school started, you had it down.  shower, get dressed, eat some corn syrup based piece of shit that fooled your system, and out the door you went, ready for what challenges were soon to face you "getting an education".

Now?  where to start?  let's work from the bottom up. after emptying various bodily holding tanks, a nice hot shower (both often highlights of the day) which include a thorough tooth brushing reminding you that your teeth are wearing out and the archaeologists will not be able to extract any data regarding your overbite. you realize that you are helping the planet conserve resources by needing less shampoo because you have less hair to cleanse. you earn a star for that. after showering, the drying off & Q-tip of ears, feet inspected and skin cream applied or else the bottoms of them crater in wintertime & do an imitation of sandpaper grit size #3, maybe 4, which gives sharp pain when walking.  if one is feeling like being thorough, skin cream is applied all over your body, but you're too lazy to do it 90% of the time.  hearing aids installed, then eyeglasses, then your morning pills in all their big pharma splendor-ness.  clothes application is pretty much the same as in one's youth, but slipping into your pants is a slower and more careful process than in yesteryear.  one has a nostalgia attack remembering how you could take off and get into one's pants much quicker then when it was urgently needed.  breakfast is savored slowly: a combination of healthy ingredients: greek yogurt (sans sugar), nuts, flax seeds, & berries....all good things my resident google says is good for me.  then, when finished eating, a required inspection of the front of your clean shirt making sure you haven't permanently stained it already before your day begins.  out the door requires locating your phone, (which god knows where you left it last and after 6 minutes of panic searching, going up and down stairs three times, is finally found in between the cushions on the couch, where it is 49% of the time, says google maps).... sunglasses, wallet, legal mobile drug stash, favourite hat, and proper shoes for the conditions and activity expected to face you.  this process usually takes at least an hour.  some days are better than others.  you are now ready for what the world is going to hand this day no matter what.  some days, understandably, you say f**k it, pass on the process, stay in your jammies, read the horrible things people are doing to each other on the web for 34 minutes, then pick up a wonderful novel with a second cup of coffee at your side and cruise in your bubble, hoping things get better tomorrow, the next time you check in on that reality.  ---MM, your faithful ed.
