A large and striking hand-made theological banner, probably produced in or around 1953 for use at revival meetings or in similar contexts.
The left side of the banner shows the descent from Eden along the path of hate, followed by the ascent to Church and Heaven along the path of love and the “narrow way”. Both paths follow a sequence of “Change of affection” (“Hearing”), “Change of mind” (“Believing”), and “Change of state” (“Obeying”). At the bottom of the banner the “broad way” leads to “Destruction”. All this may be a reference to Matthew 7:13-14: “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.”
This point is reinforced by the large pie chart at the center, which subdivides humanity (“population 2,595,108,000”), rather inscrutably, into “Christian”, “Undecided”, “Jews”, “Morality”, “Universalist”, “Infidelity”, and “Heathen”. Only the 566,201,000 Christians, it appears are on the narrow path of love that offers the possibility of Heaven.
The population figure of 2,595,108,000 suggests the banner was drawn in or around 1953.
Large-format banners such as this were commonly employed in Christian religious education and evangelism to visually convey complex theological messages in accessible, engaging ways. Their vivid, straightforward presentation of profound spiritual truths made them valuable teaching resources, visually anchoring theological concepts that might otherwise seem abstract or difficult to grasp.
